Kongsberg hallen again - last lesson before trauma day...

Readers of this blog,

Today we walked/biked up to Kongsberg hallen as it was raining, first aid can't be done in such weather, or it wouldn't be too producitve.

Again, the lesson was divided into two parts, first aid and frisbee, We were firstly divided into groups for our first aid practice. In my group we were; Emma, Maria, Andreas and Marlene. Emma and Maria were the victims. while us three were the first responsers. The situation stated that Emma and Maria had gone ice skating on a lake and unknowingly the ice had broken and it endt up that Emma and Maria fell in. Maria was dead upon arrival while Emma was shivering with cold. Me and Andreas ran to quickly get some jackets lying on the floor and covered her up with it. After we checked her pulse, she said it was high. The whistle blew, and we hoped both our victims survived. We were not told whether Emma was fine or not.

On the second half of the lesson we tried playing ultimate frisbee again. This time we played 3 vs 3 instead of 4 against 4. I think this was not as effective as we were not able to spread accross the area and cooperate too well. It was also not that good as one person had to sit out for a while.

We were unfortunately not able to win a single round, specially because of the build up of our team, some of whom didn't want to cooperate but have the frisbee for themselves.

Later we switched to having two big teams in the whole class, which I did not find fun at all as I was not passed the frisbee even once. Our team lost again. This lesson was the one I did not find really interesting, although we tried hard, we didn't win a single game. I really want to try again and beat everyone.

Week 4 - A try on frisbee golf

Luckily, the weather was nice, there was no rain so we walked up to the HIBU. As usual the lesson was divided into two parts, First Aid situation practice and frisbee games. Normally we play a game called Ultimate Frisbee, which I have really started to enjoy as I finally know the instructions and have become better at it. This time we tried out a new game called Frisbee Golf which I will talk about later on this post.

Firstly - what we did this time to learn a bit more about first aid...

After being divided into our groups, we had two victims suffering from a motorbike accident. In our case, this was Victoria and Nik. The others were first responders (including me) and when we were told to, we ran up to our patients as fast as possible. The first thing that I faced as I saw Nik and Victoria lying on the grass, were noodles. Noodles flew out of no where and landed on exactly my shoulder! These noodles were representing vomit caused due to the accident. I thought quick and firstly checked Nik's pulse which was high. I think I could do better as I didn't understand what he might have been needing as he was also able to breathe. Then I thought he might have hit his head and  gotten a concussion that lead to the vomiting, so I bandaged his head. I was not told if we were successful. I am not really sure what happened to Victoria and how it was dealt with as I was my focus was not to help her as she didn't have a very serious case.

On our second part of the lesson, we were introduced to a new game, called Frisbee Golf. This was new to me, but the golf part made me start thinking about if it would be fun, as I am not really a golf person.

The type of frisbees we used this time were the small ones, which are not my favorite types either as they don't resist or cut through air that nicely.

The rules of the game were that you were to be divided into groups in which you had to achieve a goal. The goal was to hit the frisbee in a given area, and by doing that, you would be given another region. You would have to be counting how many steps it took you to hit all the areas. The fewer the steps, the more points.

Half of the game was stuck in just finding the frisbees as there were many bushes in the area we were playing, which was that great.

If I were to chose between Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee Golf, I would definitely chose ultimate frisbee, to rather play.

Week 3

It was raining quite much this week, so instead of going to our usual place (old university area) in the open, we walked up to Kongsberg hallen for indoors PE this time. Again, our lesson was divided into two sections, first aid, and ultimate frisbee.

Starting with first aid, we were divided into groups of four, in which one was injured. In our case, this was Maria. She had broken her elbow.

This is what we had learnt about how to keep different broken areas still :

1 -- If a bone is broken, keep the joint above, and the joint below still --
For example, if you have broken your forearm, keep your wrist and elbow still.

2 -- If a joint is broken, keep the bone above and the bone below still --
For example if the elbow is broken, keep the forearm bone and the humerus bone still.

To help Maria, we used option 2. For doing this, we bandaged a straight, hard, stick like thing to the whole arm. We covered this with a camping mat, for more stillness, and warmth.

On the second part of PE, we played Ultimate Frisbee. This was really fun and I really enjoyed it. We were divided into smaller groups, which made communicating and overall playing the game easier. As we were also inside, there was no wind that would resist the frisbee from going at the speed it is supposed to go on. The team I was in was the main reason I had a lot of fun. We were, me, Victoria, Rolf, Emil and Maria. We gave each other chances and had the spirit to win which in the end left us winning all games except of one (this round was very tough). We were also forgiving as whenever someone missed a throw or wasn't able to catch one, wouldn't be laughed at by doing so.

After the round we had lost, I really wanted to win the next one. In that round, I was able to slam down a frisbee just on the last second when it was extremely close to the goal line. This gave me even more motivation as I was had been able to slam the frisbee down, before a person, much taller than me, caught it.  I was almost about to fall as on of team members, was also trying to get the frisbee the same time and accidentally tacked me.

Another incident what made me pretty confident, happened in the same game (my favorite). Here I again caught the frisbee, inside the opposing teams goal line, with many people surrounding me. This gave our team, one more point.

I'm pretty happy about this frisbee game, and really looking forward to playing it again next week :) .
